Synopsis:

Richard III by W. Shakespeare is a monumental and gripping case study of evil, but also a demonstration that a monster alone holds no power. What truly gives him the strength to corrupt an entire society is the cowardly alignment of the “ordinary man,” the “loyal subjects,” behind a toxic, despicable figure. Fueled by petty and grand betrayals, by manipulation in all its forms, from blackmail to bribery, and nurtured by confusion disguised as truth, the seeds of evil grow and spread like a fairy tale beanstalk, suffocating people, nations, and political systems. The acceptance of evil, out of fear or cowardice, is what feeds the murderous madness of totalitarianism.

In a fascinating parallel with the global moment we are now living through, the fleeting English king fails to achieve even the illusion of glory during his brief reign. For when conscience falls silent, Evil becomes the main character.
