Synopsis:

Ofelia.Afterlife is a concert-theatre piece created by Antoaneta Cojocaru, based on a text by Dan Coman, which gives voice to Ophelia to tell her own story. In the classic Hamlet, Ophelia represents a minority, often seen as too fragile and therefore insignificant. This very minority gains voice through this artistic discourse, speaking to the world with dignity about acceptance, deeper understanding, and kindness, feelings and intentions that transcend time but are especially vital now. Ophelia thus becomes both a strong female voice through her poetry and a profound artistic and social statement.

In an increasingly cynical and sterile world driven by the desire for power, control, or vengeance, Ophelia fades away, leaving behind the question: where is there still room for love?

Constructed as a fusion of arts, OFELIA.Afterlife brings together Dan Coman’s writing, the sensitive and raw performance of Antoaneta Cojocaru, the music of Beethoven Crisis, Vladimir Turturică’s set design, Iolanda Mutu Jr.’s costumes, Ioana Marchidan’s choreography, projections by Dorel Mihăilă, and lighting by Alin Popa. Together, these elements create a multisensory show blending realism with surrealism to offer a profound perspective on the female condition and its emotional complexity, as well as on the human condition of those who do not resemble victors but quietly underpin them.
