for his two sons - Cyril and Vyvyan. It is one of the most well-known writ
ings of the genre in world literature and a classic work of English litera
ture for children and adolescents. The story is as simple as it is reveali
ng about the human fate: after the giant returns from a not-so-satisfactor
y visit to his friend\, the ogre from Cornwall\, he decides to banish fore
ver the children who played in his garden\, which he then surrounds with a
high wall. However\, he did not think that the wall would keep away not o
nly the unwanted guests but also the sun\, spring\, and warmth. Thus\, his
  garden\, once so welcoming\, becomes a cold place where snow\, frost\, an
d hail are omnipresent. When the Giant realizes his mistake\, he invites t
he children back into his garden\, but the sunset of his life makes happin
ess short-lived. The fact that the story of the late transformation of the
selfish giant into an altruistic being and an ideal playmate for children
remains relevant even today\, over 100 years after publication\, is prove
n by the mercantile society we live in\, where the blind desire for materi
al accumulation and possession at any cost dominates despite the multiple
crises humanity faces at the beginning of the 21st century. The ending of
the text and the play aligns with the socialist-libertarian vision Wilde h
imself had about society\, life\, and its meaning - generosity and communi
ty being the primary sources of human fulfillment.” (Radu Nica\, directo
