Synopsis:

“It’s about restoring a nearly forgotten classic work of Romanian literature. It’s about reconstructing a familiar yet strange atmosphere. It’s about rewriting (following my previous attempts with Scarred Hearts after Max Blecher, The Calamity after Caragiale, and The Forest of the Hanged after Liviu Rebreanu). It’s about the regret that time passes over so many sublime pages of old literature that almost no one opens anymore, then it’s about this city with poor girls from a country of poor girls full of sad poetry, an endless sadness, like poverty itself.” – Radu Afrim, director of the show
