Synopsis: When Radu Afrim plays, you want to be there to witness what emerges: an afrimiad, or perhaps an afrimedie, a tension-filled oscillation between absurd situations, bizarrely comic lines, and poetry that moves you to tears. Afrim seems to invent an entirely new dramatic genre, relying on surprise elements bursting from every direction, text, acting, set, props, costumes, and music.

“Sometimes a touch of kitsch holds you back when you feel you’ve gone far ahead of your peers in terms of aspirations and ideals.” – This line from Afrim’s script may serve as one of the interpretive keys to the playful (self-)irony that shaped the show. With painful humor and searing lucidity, hallmarks of his entire body of work, Afrim targets all the intolerances of our times.

Script by Radu Afrim. Includes the texts:

A Visit to a Man’s House in the Absence of His Wife by Adriana Bittel

The Dostoevsky Variable by Bogdan Răileanu
