Synopsis: Under the rule of the York family, England seems to return to a time of prosperity and happiness. The Wars of the Roses are now just a memory, glorified by the passage of time. But the unexpected death of King Edward IV shatters this apparent idyll: his brother, Richard, is determined to succeed him on the English throne. His political shrewdness keeps him tightly gripped by both allies and rivals. He will not hesitate to commit fratricide, nor to shed the blood of innocent children if they threaten his power. We witness the rise and fall of an unparalleled tyrant, whose distorted figure overshadowed an entire century in England’s history.
This ever-relevant imprint of Shakespeare’s creative genius not only does not fade with time but, unfortunately, from time to time, what the immortal giant of universal drama and theatre history teaches us about the mechanisms of power and tyranny, about the eternal dialectic of cruelty and human vulnerability, and ultimately about humanity itself, becomes increasingly relevant…
Richard III is the latest part of a directing program that has been ongoing for several years. The live music integrated into the dramatic plot offers the audience a unique and authentic show-concert experience. This time, hits of the famous American rock band from the 1970s will be evoked on stage, through whose songs the band leader will become the vocal alter ego of the bloodthirsty King Richard III.
